On the vault the Stories of Creation are framed by membrature with Prophets and Sibyls painted by Michelangelo Buonarroti in 1508 to 1512. On the altar wall the Last Judgement executed by Michelangelo himself between 1536 and 1541.

Nine episodes from the book of Genesis are painted in an architectural configuration animated by figures of Nudes that sustain bronze medallions with scenes from the Bible. At its ends the frame becomes thrones for seven Prophets and five Sibyls. In the rib vaults connecting the walls with the vault ancestors of Christ are represented and in the four pendentives there are scenes from these episodes: David and Goliath, Judith and Holofernes, the bronze Serpent and the Torture of Haman.
